Huawei Outlines its Vision for 5.5G Networks at 10Gbps

20/09/2022

The company believes that 5.5G will be able to unlock corporate potential.

Huawei expects that the combination of advances in microprocessors, cloud computing, storage systems, and other areas of the 5.5G IT infrastructure will open up a new generation of intelligent, interconnected, and scalable services for business. This will eliminate technological bottlenecks.

The term “5.5G” is used by the company to describe future achievements. They will bridge the gap between the 6G networks, which are set to become commercially available by 2030, and the current generation of mobile technologies.

China's tech giant says 5G technology developments will deliver mobile broadband speeds of up to 10 Gbps over 5-10 years.

It is argued that top speeds will be achieved thanks to wireless technologies such as MIMO with higher-level modulation, and a broader connectivity ecosystem that includes advances in fiber optics, a passive optical network (PON), and Wi-Fi 7.

“As digital technologies are spreading, smart applications will be subject to large-scale commercialization, and computing resources will be deployed in multiple clouds,” said David Wang, chairman of Huawei's ICT infrastructure management board. “Enterprises need to leverage computing power from multiple clouds at lower cost, with greater agility and flexibility.”

To accelerate the development of 5.5G, Huawei wants the industry to develop a common roadmap within standardization bodies such as 3GPP and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

The company hopes to release its first 6G compatible products by 2030.
